MArch with Distincltion and BA(Hons) with 2:1 achieved
During my Part 1 placement year after graduation (so during my fourth year), I worked for 10 months with Align Architecture Ltd in Birmingham, UK in 2018-19. I learnt lots, improved on my AutoCAD and Photoshop skills and had the opportunity to be in meetings and attend events with clients and colleagues. Some of the projects I worked on are going through or passed a planning stage. I will post any pictures I can in due course when works begin on this page.
As it is extremely difficult to gain experience in the Architectural field before the first step of the degree is completed, and also without having contacts in the area of work, I tried to gain knowledge in similar areas and on sites.
Having a tour by the leading firm around the new Liverpool Hospital that is currently under construction, gave me insight into the process that such large schemes have to go through in order to win the contract. I also had the chance to see construction on the site, some of which might not necessarily be noticed by the time that the public are able to use the building but are very important in the building and interiors process.
(But we still had time for a group picture on the roof!)

Summer 2017 I had some work experience within the planning department of a council and I spent time in many different sub-departments, including: architects, planning, urban design, conservation, highways, building control, enforcement, geology and policy. I learnt a lot during this short period and although I already had some previous knowledge of the planning application process, it was still eye opening to see first hand (and behind the scenes) the extensive process that a single application goes through. I even got the chance to approve / decline parts of applications in some of the departments, such as highways.
I went on many different sites, spoke to so many people involved and honestly learnt a lot from this experience and will take this knowledge onto my future projects.
In sixth form I took part in a voluntary scheme with Schneider Electrics to learn about more different ways that we could make our school / sixth form more environmentally friendly and sustainable that it was at the time.
